What Documents Should You Take?

Before departure, make sure you have the following documents:

Your Green Card, which certifies that you are properly insured and contains useful information such as:

  • The country code number and insurer code (Box 4 of the Green Card): if you plan to visit a country whose National Bureau is not a signatory of the multilateral agreement, your Green Card will be checked when you cross the border.
  • The phone number of your insurer (either in Box 10 of the Green Card or in your insurance policy).
  • Remember to use the correct international dialling code (00 or  '+') and the country code (376 for Andorra) when calling from abroad.

You can also consult the list of countries where the International Motor Insurance Certificate (IMIC) or Green Card is required on the website of the Council of Bureaux (https://www.cobx.org).

Your Green Card will not be valid if, when travelling:

  • The box corresponding to the country you plan to visit has been crossed out by your insurer.
  • Your Green Card expires while you are travelling in one of the member countries of the Green Card System (only applicable if the National Bureau of the country is not a signatory of the multilateral agreement).
  • You plan to visit a country that does not belong to the Green Card System.
  • In all these cases, you must purchase a 'frontier insurance policy' (from the customs office) or a temporary insurance policy (from a local insurance company) in the country you are visiting. You can seek advice from the embassies or consulates of these countries in Andorra.
