Checkbox 3 of the Green Card.
Also known as 'third-party insurance', this coverage only applies to losses, damages or injuries caused to a third party. Your own losses, damages or injuries will only be covered if you purchase additional coverages, as detailed bellow.
Provides compensation for personal injuries of the driver, even if the driver is responsible for the accident. Depending on the policy, it may also cover medical expenses and financial loss due to illness, permanent disability or death.
The 'comprehensive accident insurance' covers damages to your own vehicle and applies to all types of impacts or collisions (deer, wild boar, trees, urban furniture, other vehicles, etc.) even if the collision is with an unidentified vehicle. There may also be specific coverages for animal collisions or damage caused by weather conditions, which can be combined with both 'third-party insurance' and 'comprehensive insurance'; coverage for theft, windscreen, fire, natural disaster, etc.
In particular, this allows the insurer to defend the insured party's interests if they are involved in an accident.
In some cases, in addition to accident assistance, this may also include vehicle breakdown support (towing and repairs), as well as personal assistance (repatriation, accommodation, etc.). This coverage can be available from your insurer or from a specialised roadside assistance company.
Otherwise, your insurer will have checked the boxes of the affected countries on the front of your Green Card (the countries covered will also be listed in the general conditions of your policy).
